Our Story

Made by hand from Newlyn trawler nets.

Ocean Leash is a father and daughter business in St Arvans, near Chepstow. Beth and her dad, Gav, make every lead by hand from trawler net that would otherwise be thrown away.

Fishing nets are built to last at sea for years, which is exactly why lost and discarded nets are such a problem for marine life. We use retired net from trawlers fishing out of Newlyn in Cornwall, wash it, and splice it into leads that are strong, soft in the hand, and quick to rinse after a muddy walk.

Each lead takes about half an hour to make. No two are quite the same, because the colours and wear of the net are part of the lead.

Since 2022 our leads have gone to hundreds of dogs, through our Etsy shop (4.8 stars from 34 reviews) and independent shops including Lyn Valley Dog House in Lynton, The Crow’s Nest in Cadgwith and Kerensa in Padstow.
